NFF forms committee to probe Super Falcons World Cup failure

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has established a fact-finding committee to investigate the recent struggles of Nigeria's national teams. The inquiry will focus specifically on the Super Falcons' failure to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

This decision follows a difficult campaign at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco. The Super Falcons were eliminated in the quarter-finals and subsequently lost 2-1 to South Africa in the playoff for a spot in the Inter-Confederation Playoffs. This defeat ensures Nigeria will miss the 2027 tournament, ending a streak of appearances at every Women's World Cup since the competition began in 1991.

Ambassador Fanny Amun, MON, will lead the committee as chairperson. The membership includes former Nigerian internationals Ladan Bosso, Desire Oparanozie, and Mutiu Adepoju, along with Dr Alex Mana. Mr Nasiru Jibril has been named the secretary of the group.

The committee is tasked with examining the setbacks experienced by the national teams. Its primary objective is to provide recommendations intended to stop similar failures from occurring in the future. The NFF stated that the findings and suggestions from this group will be used to guide improvements for Nigeria's performance in upcoming international competitions.
