Nick Kyrgios ban ends after completing ITIA rehabilitation programme

Nick Kyrgios is eligible to return to the ATP tour after completing an ITIA rehabilitation programme linked to his cocaine case.

Nick Kyrgios’s ban has formally ended after the Australian completed the rehabilitation programme required by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA). His one-month suspension was backdated and concluded on September 3, 2026, clearing him to return to the ATP tour.

The case began with an out-of-competition sample collected on June 22 during the ATP 250 tournament in Mallorca, Spain. A WADA-accredited laboratory identified benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, in the sample on July 17. The ITIA then imposed a provisional suspension on August 4 while the case was assessed.

The sanction was reduced from the standard three months to one month under the Tennis Anti-Doping Programme rules covering substances of abuse. The finding was treated as unrelated to sporting performance, while Kyrgios’s cooperation and completion of an approved treatment course allowed the shorter penalty to be applied.

The disciplinary process also affected his competitive record. Kyrgios lost the €6,570 prize money he earned in Mallorca, and the ranking points he collected at that event were removed from his ATP tally. Those penalties add to the difficulty of rebuilding his position ahead of future Grand Slam events.

Kyrgios, 31, is now attempting to resume a career that has already been disrupted by wrist and knee surgeries. The 2022 Wimbledon finalist has said that the physical and mental impact of his recent injuries has been substantial, with his body often unable to meet the demands he places on it.

He accepted responsibility for the anti-doping violation after the suspension and apologised to those affected by his actions. With the ITIA requirements completed, the administrative barrier has ended, leaving Kyrgios to focus on whether his health and competitive level will allow him to continue his return.
