Nigeria defender Tosin Demehin leaves Galatasaray after contract exit

Nigeria defender Tosin Demehin has announced her departure from Galatasaray after the end of her contract with the Turkish women’s Super Lig club. The Super Falcons centre-back joined the Istanbul side from French club Stade de Reims in 2024 on a one-year agreement before extending her stay.

Demehin confirmed the decision in a message on Instagram, reflecting on her time at Galatasaray with appreciation and pride. She thanked the club for the opportunity to wear its colours and said she would leave with respect and lasting memories from her time in Turkey.

The former Rivers Angels player became a regular part of Galatasaray’s team during her spell. Her period at the club followed the side’s title-winning 2023/24 campaign, although Galatasaray were unable to match those achievements in the subsequent season.

Demehin has not announced where she will play next. The defender’s exit comes as European leagues prepare for the new campaign, while her experience at club and international level leaves her available after two seasons in Turkey.

She was part of Nigeria’s squad at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, where the Super Falcons reached the quarter-finals before being eliminated. Nigeria also missed qualification for the Women’s World Cup playoffs during the competition.

Demehin was sent off in Nigeria’s second match against Zambia, but the Falcons still secured a 1-0 victory. Her strengths include pace, aerial ability and an aggressive approach in central defence, qualities that have made her an important option for the national team.
