Nigerian referee Akintoye to officiate Algeria vs Malawi

Nigerian official Yemisi Akintoye has been appointed to referee the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Algeria and Malawi. The match is scheduled to take place at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, with a kickoff time of 6pm Nigerian time.

This appointment marks the second time Akintoye will serve as a referee during the WAFCON 2026 tournament. She previously officiated the Group A fixture between Kenya and Senegal at the Olympic Stadium on Thursday, 30 July. Prior to her role as a referee, she served as the fourth official during the tournament's opening match between Algeria and Kenya.

Algeria enters the semi-final in second place in the standings with six points from three matches. Their recent form includes two wins against Senegal and Zambia, a draw against Zambia, and two losses to South Africa. Malawi sits in third place, also holding six points after three matches. Malawi's recent results include losses to Ghana, Morocco, Tanzania, and India, alongside a draw against Tanzania.

In the second semi-final, Vincentia Enyonam from Togo will take charge of the match between hosts Morocco and Cameroon. That encounter is set for the Moulay El Hassan Stadium in Rabat and is scheduled to begin at 9pm Nigerian time.
