NPFL partners with Murphy Ben International for YouTube streaming

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has entered a new digital era through a partnership with Murphy Ben International (MBI). NPFL Chairman Otunba Gbenga Elegbeleye announced the agreement, which focuses on a YouTube live-streaming initiative to increase the league's global reach.

Under this arrangement, fans will be able to access selected live matches and delayed broadcasts on the official NPFL YouTube channel. The coverage will be provided in high definition and free of charge. The service is intended to be accessible via mobile phones, laptops, televisions, and other internet-enabled devices, ensuring supporters can follow matches regardless of their location.

Elegbeleye stated that the digital strategy aims to solve the long-standing issue of fans being unable to locate match broadcasts. He noted that the partnership is designed to provide professional production elements, including graphics, replays, commentary, and behind-the-scenes content. A test run of this production model was previously conducted during the final-day match in Lagos between Ikorodu City and Rangers International.

Beyond broadcasting, the collaboration seeks to enhance the commercial value of the league. The digital platform is expected to create new revenue streams for clubs through advertising, sponsorships, and viewership. This increased visibility is also intended to provide players with a global stage to showcase their talents to international scouts and stakeholders.

Chioma Obioke, the Director for Corporate Affairs at MBI, explained that the goal is to make the league more commercially viable while celebrating Nigerian football talent. She emphasized that the project involves storytelling to promote the history and activities of the clubs, coaches, and players to a wider audience, including the Nigerian diaspora.

The agreement follows several weeks of discussions and meetings held in both Abuja and at the MBI headquarters in Lagos. Elegbeleye concluded that the move is essential for the league's future, asserting that the NPFL must embrace the digital direction of modern football.
