Nurudeen Aweroro explains departure from Shooting Stars

Former Shooting Stars head coach Nurudeen Aweroro has addressed his recent departure from the club. The Nigeria Premier Football League outfit confirmed his exit last week.

Aweroro stated that the separation was a mutual agreement. He noted that when the club contacted him to part ways, he had anticipated the move for some time. He was informed that the club felt he could not satisfy the requirements for competing in both the NPFL and continental competitions. Aweroro said he accepted this decision.

The former coach also detailed the difficulties he encountered while managing the former NPFL champions. He mentioned that despite bringing in his own staff, such as team manager Tammy, he faced internal friction. Aweroro claimed there were instances of threats regarding his job security if matches were not won, alongside disagreements over his selection of players.

He maintained his focus on team targets despite these internal bickerings. Aweroro had previously managed Ikorodu City before moving to Shooting Stars. He explained that his departure from Ikorodu City was a personal choice driven by the influence of the technical director, Bright Ozebagbe.

Aweroro described Ozebagbe's role as an office-based position that involved constant interference in his duties as head coach. This situation led Aweroro to instruct his team manager to submit his CV to leave the club.
