Olanrewaju declines Shooting Stars head coach role

Rivers United assistant coach Yemi Daniel Olanrewaju has rejected an approach from Shooting Stars to take over as their head coach. The former Enyimba manager declined the opportunity to fill the vacancy left by Nurudeen Aweroro, who departed the club last week.

Olanrewaju stated that his current priority is to remain at Rivers United until the conclusion of the 2026-27 season. He expressed a desire to honour his existing contract and avoid leaving his current employer mid-term.

The assistant coach noted that he has maintained a positive working relationship with technical manager Finidi George. He also praised the Rivers United management for the trust they have placed in him during his tenure.

While acknowledging the prestige of Shooting Stars, Olanrewaju said he would always consider the club due to past contacts and his respect for their project. However, he maintained that his focus remains entirely on his responsibilities with Rivers United.

Olanrewaju emphasised his personal values, specifically citing respect and credibility as central to his professional conduct. He described the management at Rivers United as kind and supportive throughout his time with the team.
