Orbih praises turnout at 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics

Badminton Federation of Nigeria president Francis Orbih has welcomed the strong participation at the 9th Lagos International Badminton Classics, where 166 players from 27 countries are competing at the National Institute for Sports gymnasium complex in Lagos. The tournament is scheduled to conclude on Saturday.

Orbih said the competition has produced an exciting atmosphere at the venue, which is located within the Lagos National Stadium complex in Surulere. He also praised the international interest shown by the participating nations as the event continues.

The classics carry a total prize fund of US$20,000, a figure that reflects the tournament’s place on the international badminton calendar. Orbih said the financial incentive should encourage players to perform at their highest level during the competition.

He added that the Badminton Federation of Nigeria is focused on delivering a well-organised championship. The federation also views the event as an opportunity to strengthen Nigeria’s reputation as a host for international sporting competitions.

Orbih expressed appreciation to National Institute for Sports director-general Phillip Shuaibu and the institute’s staff for making the venue available. He said their cooperation had been important to the preparations for the tournament.

The competition’s field of 166 players, drawn from 27 countries, has given the Lagos event a broad international presence. Its conclusion on Saturday will bring the ninth edition to an end after the participants have competed for the US$20,000 prize fund.
