Orlando Pirates sign goalkeeper Dublin Boon from Stellenbosch FC

Orlando Pirates have completed the signing of goalkeeper Dublin Boon from Stellenbosch FC. The 21-year-old has signed a three-year contract to join the Buccaneers.

Boon arrived in the Cape Winelands last year, moving from the New Zealand outfit Wellington Phoenix in August. During his tenure at Stellenbosch FC, he was primarily utilised as a backup goalkeeper for the club's DStv Diski Challenge side.

The transfer follows the collapse of a previous negotiation that was intended to be a major swap deal. That arrangement would have seen Boon and Faiz Abrahams move to Orlando Pirates in exchange for Kabelo Dlamini moving to Stellenbosch. However, the deal failed to materialise because Dlamini opted against the transfer. While Abrahams has since completed a move to Kaizer Chiefs, Pirates have now successfully finalised the acquisition of Boon.

This new signing addresses a change in the club's goalkeeping roster following the departure of Melusi Buthelezi. Buthelezi recently left the Soweto giants to join Sekhukhune United.

Boon joins a squad that currently features Siyabonga Dladla, 25, and Ethan Visagie, 21. The addition of the 21-year-old provides further depth to the team's options between the posts.
