Osimhen stars in 4-0 win as Eagles’ Aina, Lookman struggle
Victor Osimhen scored twice for Galatasaray while Samuel Chukwueze and Semi Ajayi excelled, but Ola Aina and Ademola Lookman endured mixed weekends.
Victor Osimhen scored twice and supplied an assist as Galatasaray defeated Erzurumspor 4-0 on Friday, underlining his strong start to the season. The Nigeria striker now has four goals and one assist for the campaign after helping create the second goal before scoring Galatasaray’s third and fourth.
Samuel Chukwueze also made a decisive contribution as AC Milan opened their league campaign with a 2-1 victory over Torino on Sunday. Used as a right wing-back, the Nigerian set up Adrien Rabiot’s goal and was named Man of the Match after an energetic display in Turin.
Semi Ajayi produced another standout performance in Hull City’s 2-0 home win over Manchester United. The defender opened the scoring in the 17th minute by reacting fastest to a loose ball from a set-piece, then helped Hull protect their lead with a strong defensive showing. He also received the Man of the Match award.
Chidera Ejuke made an immediate impact for Sevilla in their 3-1 win against Athletic Club at San Mamés. The winger entered at half-time and needed only five minutes to score, lifting the ball over goalkeeper Unai Simón to double Sevilla’s advantage. Sevilla’s other goals came from Oso and Isaac Romero, while Aitor Paredes scored for Athletic late on.
Ola Aina had a less influential outing as Nottingham Forest lost 1-0 to Leeds United on Saturday. The Nigeria international played 74 minutes at right wing-back, but Forest’s deliveries from his side were often cleared and he found it difficult to affect the attack in the advanced role. Forest therefore left the weekend without a point from the fixture.
Ademola Lookman was unable to score in Atlético Madrid’s 2-2 draw with Villarreal, completing 79 minutes with one attempt that missed the target. Wilfred Ndidi, making his first start of the season for Beşiktaş, played the full match in a 1-0 defeat at Alanyaspor. The contrasting results leave Osimhen, Chukwueze and Ajayi carrying the strongest individual form from the weekend, while Aina and Lookman will look for improved displays in their next fixtures.
