Otumfuo opens Millennium Excellence Week 2026 with DC golf

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will open Millennium Excellence Week 2026 in Washington DC on Monday, August 24, with the MEA Otumfuo Invitational Golf Tournament. He is scheduled to hit the ceremonial first ball at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia, a venue established in 1924 and associated with five US presidents.

The tournament is being held in honour of the Asantehene, who serves as patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation. Its opening will bring together investors, business executives, diplomatic representatives, founders, family office principals, sponsors and partners at the start of the week-long programme.

The invitational is designed to provide a setting for participants to establish connections and discuss possible partnerships before the main events begin. Golf will therefore serve as the first activity in a programme that also covers leadership, investment, business, culture and the recognition of excellence.

Nana Agyeman Prempeh, president of the Millennium Excellence Foundation, said the decision to begin with golf was intended to give participants a relaxed setting for interaction. The organisers have placed relationship-building at the centre of the tournament ahead of the wider Millennium Excellence Week schedule.

Among those expected to take part is Kodwo, also known as Kojo, Mills, the founder and managing partner of Africa-focused investment firm Vibranium Capital Group. Olajuwon Ajanaku, co-founder of lifestyle brand Eastside Golf, is also due to join the field.

David Lubotta, president and managing partner of DML Capital Partners, is another participant expected at the invitational. The Army Navy Country Club, which has hosted prominent military leaders as well as five US presidents, will provide the setting for the opening sporting event before the remaining activities of the week take place.
