Premier League 2026: Ajayi scores, assists as Hull beat Man Utd 2-0

Hull City defeated Manchester United 2-0 in the Premier League, with Nigeria international defender Semi Ajayi scoring one goal and helping create the other. The result also made Ajayi the first Hull player to score in the English top flight in nine years.

Ajayi opened the scoring after reacting quickest to a loose ball inside the penalty area. His finish gave Hull the advantage, and the home side extended it before half-time through central-defensive partner Noble Mendy.

The second goal followed an important contribution from Ajayi at the opposite end of the move. The ball came off his head and fell into a useful position for Mendy, who finished to put Hull two goals ahead.

Manchester United tried to respond after the interval, but Hull’s defence held firm throughout the match. Ajayi was central to that display, helping keep United’s attack under control and preventing them from finding a way back into the game.

Former Manchester United goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel praised Ajayi’s performance after the final whistle. He highlighted the defender’s work against Cunha and also credited Hull’s back line for defending effectively while contributing decisively in the attacking area.

Hull are listed 10th in the 2026 Premier League standings, with their record shown as zero points from zero matches and a 0-0 goal record. Their recent form, however, includes four wins and one draw: victories over Rizespor, Konyaspor, Middlesbrough and Millwall, followed by a goalless draw with Millwall.
