Prichard Colón weight details emerge 11 years after Williams fight

Newly detailed records show Prichard Colón moved from 154 to 148.8 and then 156 pounds around his final fight with Terrel Williams.

Prichard Colón was recorded at 154 pounds on October 2 before weighing 148.8 pounds for his fight with Terrel Williams on October 16. At a medical examination the following day, he was listed at 156 pounds, according to findings from Virginia’s 2016 investigation.

The ringside physician, Dr Richard Ashby, was not at the official weigh-in. The report said it was unclear whether Colón’s official weight had been passed on to him. Ashby’s available information came from Colón’s pre-fight medical questionnaire and the examination he conducted before the bout.

The findings concluded that Ashby apparently did not know Colón had moved from 154 pounds to 148.8 and then up to 156. Without that information, the report said, the doctor would not have had a reason to question the weight loss when assessing whether Colón was fit to compete.

The records do not establish that the changes made Colón medically unfit or that he was dehydrated when he entered the ring. They add detail to the circumstances around the fight without providing a medical explanation for what followed. The punches Colón absorbed, including blows to the back of his head, became a central part of Virginia’s later investigation.

Williams was Colón’s third fight in roughly two and a half months. He had completed 15 competitive rounds during that period, after stopping former world champion Vivian Harris in four rounds on September 11, only 36 days before facing Williams.

Colón entered the Williams bout unbeaten at 16-0, with 13 victories inside the distance. He was trying to establish himself at welterweight after competing around 154 pounds and was moving towards the championship level. The weight records, emerging 11 years after the fight, provide further context around the final contest of his career while stopping short of linking the changes directly to the tragedy that followed.
