Princess Marfo praises unity after Black Queens beat Côte d'Ivoire

Princess Marfo has credited the unity of the Black Queens for their 2-1 comeback victory against Côte d'Ivoire. The win in the WAFCON 2026 play-in keeps Ghana's chances of qualifying for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup active.

Ghana faced early pressure when Ines Konan scored a penalty after just four minutes. The goal followed a foul by Marfo on a Côte d'Ivoire player inside the penalty area. Although Ghana created chances before the interval, they could not find an equaliser before half-time.

Marfo restored parity after the restart by heading in a goal from a Stella Nyamekye corner. The Black Queens took the lead 13 minutes later when Josephine Bonsu converted a penalty awarded for a handball.

Marfo stated that the squad focused on working as a collective because they had everything to gain and lose. She noted that sticking to the tactical plan and utilizing individual skills helped the team overcome the early deficit. The forward also mentioned that the support and encouragement received helped the players continue their efforts.

This result ensures Ghana secures one of the two African spots in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Play-Off Tournament. They join South Africa, who advanced after a 2-1 win over Nigeria.
