QPR abandon pursuit of Montpellier midfielder Khalil Fayad

Queens Park Rangers have ended their pursuit of Montpellier HSC midfielder Khalil Fayad. The Championship club has walked away from the potential transfer of the 22-year-old Frenchman.

Mohamed Toubache-Ter reported on X that Julien Stéphan’s side has given up on the deal. This development follows previous links between the London club and the midfielder, which French media had previously dismissed as false news in July 2025.

Montpellier HSC currently faces a significant financial crisis that has forced owner Laurent Nicollin to implement strict measures. The club is unable to make new signings and must sell existing players to balance their finances. Fayad has been made available for transfer and is also interested in a move away from the club.

Securing a sale is a priority for Montpellier because the midfielder is in the final year of his contract. The player is valued at €1.5m, and the club needs to move him this window to avoid losing him on a free transfer in 2027.

Fayad spent the previous season with the Ligue 2 side, appearing in 24 matches. During those appearances, he played a total of 966 minutes and recorded one goal and one assist.
