Rangers, Rivers United and El-Kanemi to feature in Jos tournament

Nigeria's CAF representatives including Rangers and Rivers United will compete in a pre-season tournament in Plateau State this August.

Nigeria's representatives for the 2026-27 CAF club competitions will face each other in a pre-season tournament held in Jos, Plateau State. The competition is scheduled to run from Monday, August 17th, to Sunday, August 24th.

The tournament is organized to ensure all participating teams are adequately prepared for their upcoming continental assignments. The event will feature a selection of clubs from both the Nigeria Premier Football League and the Nigeria National League.

Reigning NPFL champions Rangers and runners-up Rivers United are among the primary participants. Both clubs are set to represent the country in the CAF Champions League. Their involvement in the Jos tournament serves as a vital preparation period before they begin their continental campaigns.

Other major participants include Shooting Stars and El-Kanemi Warriors, who are slated to compete in the CAF Confederation Cup. Shooting Stars enter the tournament as the second runners-up in the league, while El-Kanemi Warriors join the competition as the 2026 President Federation Cup winners.

In addition to the CAF representatives, the tournament will include NPFL side Plateau United and NNL side Mighty Jets. The inclusion of these teams provides a diverse competitive environment for the clubs involved.

The week-long tournament in Plateau State offers a concentrated period for these clubs to test their squads. By bringing together the teams destined for African competition, the event focuses on readiness for the high-level demands of the CAF club competitions.
