Rybakina overcomes Gauff to reach Toronto final

Elena Rybakina defeated Coco Gauff to secure her place in the Toronto final. Rybakina won the match after losing the opening set 5-7, eventually taking the next two sets to win the contest.

Gauff controlled the first set with a 7-5 win, but Rybakina improved her serving and baseline performance to dominate the subsequent sets. This victory marks the second time in a row that Rybakina has come back from a set down, following her quarter-final win against Naomi Osaka. Rybakina noted that she felt she rushed her play during the first set but was pleased to secure the three-set victory.

She will face seventh-seeded Iga Swiatek in the final. Swiatek reached the championship match by defeating Elina Svitolina 6-3, 1-6, 6-3. The win marks Swiatek's first WTA final of the year and brings her head-to-head record against Svitolina to 5-3.

Swiatek's match against Svitolina began after a rain delay lasting over an hour. Swiatek took an early 4-0 lead as Svitolina struggled to hold her service games. Although Svitolina saved two set points to avoid a shutout in the first set, Swiatek took the set 6-3. Svitolina then won the second set convincingly to force a third.

In the deciding set, Swiatek broke Svitolina to love to lead 5-3 before holding her serve to finish the match. Swiatek, a six-time Grand Slam champion, said she had to find her rhythm and composure after the second set. She is looking for her first title since winning in Seoul nearly a year ago.
