Sevilla join Bologna and Trabzonspor in race for Ilenikhena

Sevilla have entered the race with Bologna and Trabzonspor for George Ilenikhena, who wants to leave Al-Ittihad and return to European football.

Three clubs are pursuing Nigeria-eligible striker George Ilenikhena as he seeks to leave Al-Ittihad and return to European football. The 20-year-old forward has attracted Sevilla, Bologna and Trabzonspor after struggling for regular playing time in Saudi Arabia.

Ilenikhena moved from Monaco to Al-Ittihad for €30 million in February 2026. The transfer was intended to provide him with a larger role, but competition for places and tactical choices have restricted his involvement during his first months at the club.

He underlined his ability on Tuesday by scoring twice against Al-Najma in the King’s Cup. Ilenikhena played for an hour, with both goals arriving during an important period in his effort to improve his position at Al-Ittihad.

Bologna have proposed a loan deal with a €22 million option to buy, but Al-Ittihad rejected the offer. Trabzonspor also put forward a loan structure, including a €15 million purchase option, and received the same response.

Sevilla have taken a different approach with an oral offer worth €10 million, potentially rising by €3 million in bonuses. Their proposal also includes a substantial share of any future transfer fee. Al-Ittihad are seeking close to €20 million and want a significant payment at the beginning of the agreement, leaving the Spanish club needing to improve the package or change its structure.

Sevilla have begun the 2026 LaLiga campaign in third place with three points from one match and a 2-1 goal record. Their last five results are two wins, one draw and two defeats, while Athletic Club are next on the schedule on August 22.

A return to Europe could also strengthen Ilenikhena’s path towards the Super Eagles. Nigeria coach Eric Chelle has identified him as a young alternative to Victor Osimhen, with the coach noting similarities between the two strikers. Chelle has also been working for months to bring Ilenikhena into the national-team set-up.
