Sharks sign Springbok André Esterhuizen until 2030 season

The Sharks have secured the long-term future of Springbok André Esterhuizen with a new contract extension. The agreement ensures the versatile player will remain with the Durban-based franchise until the conclusion of the 2030 season.

Esterhuizen is a highly experienced figure at the club, having already recorded 125 senior appearances for the Sharks across all competitions. His leadership was also central to the team last year when he took over the role of Sharks captain.

Since making his international debut for South Africa in 2018, the 32-year-old has become a consistent presence in the Springbok midfield. His international career includes being part of the squad that won the 2023 World Cup.

One of the player's primary assets is his ability to provide tactical flexibility for his coaches. He is capable of playing in the midfield as a centre or moving into the loose forward positions, a trait that has benefited the national team's selection options.

Head coach JP Pietersen and the Sharks management have expressed their satisfaction with the signing. The player is recognized for combining pace with power when operating in the midfield.

By committing his future to the club through June 2030, Esterhuizen continues his long association with the black-and-white jersey. The deal provides the Sharks with stability in their midfield and loose forward ranks for the next several seasons.
