Sheffield Wednesday sign Harambee Stars midfielder Tyler Onyango

Sheffield Wednesday have secured the signing of Tyler Onyango on a three-year deal following a successful trial period at the club.

Sheffield Wednesday have completed the signing of Tyler Onyango on a three-year contract. The 23-year-old central midfielder joins the club on a free transfer following his departure from Everton.

Onyango, a Harambee Stars prospect, secured his move to Hillsborough after a trial period where he impressed the coaching staff. He becomes the 13th player to join the club during this summer transfer window. The midfielder has previously spent time on loan at Stockport County, Forest Green Rovers, and Burton Albion.

Manager Danny Röhl acknowledged the player's history of fitness issues but expressed confidence in his ability to manage the midfielder's development. Röhl noted that while Onyango has faced significant injury problems, the club believes they can help him reach his potential through their training methods.

The manager described the former England youth international as a versatile asset who can play as a right-back, a right centre-back in a back three, or as a number six. Röhl highlighted Onyango's physical strength and noted that his ability to occupy multiple positions is useful given the club's current financial situation.

Röhl compared the situation to midfielder Nathaniel Chalobah, who managed a consistent run of games for the club late last season before moving to Charlton Athletic. The Wednesday boss stated that the club intends to use the coming weeks to build the player's fitness so he can eventually become a regular part of the squad.

While Onyango is currently viewed as a back-up player, the coaching staff believes his talent is significant. The club hopes that providing a permanent environment will allow the midfielder to flourish and become a strong contributor to the team.
