Silver Strikers turn to Nsingizini after 3-0 CAF WCL Qualifiers loss

Silver Strikers will redirect their attention to Nsingizini Hotspurs after losing 3-0 to Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers. Karabo Dhlamini scored twice before Isabela Ludwig completed Sundowns’ victory after the interval.

The result left Group B open, with Sundowns leading on six points. Silver Strikers remain second, while Costa do Sol are behind them and Nsingizini sit at the bottom after losing both of their matches.

Silver Strikers began the group stage with a 2-1 victory over Mozambique’s Costa do Sol, but the defeat by Sundowns leaves their final group fixture carrying major significance. Coach Kulemeka said the Malawian side would review the match, identify the lessons and prepare specifically for the challenge posed by Nsingizini.

Kulemeka also acknowledged Sundowns’ quality, while accepting that Silver Strikers made the task harder by conceding the goals. The Malawian side attempted to recover after the break, but could not change the outcome. Their immediate focus will be on improving their finishing before Tuesday’s decisive group match.

The result came against the backdrop of a strong domestic campaign for Silver Strikers. They lead the 2026 Malawi Super League with 29 points from 14 matches, having won eight, drawn five and lost once. Their goals record stands at 23 scored and five conceded.

Their last five league matches have produced three draws and two wins: a 1-1 draw at Mitundu Baptist, a 4-1 victory over Karonga United, a goalless draw at Chitipa United, a 3-0 win against Red Lions FC and a 1-1 draw at CIVO United. Their next listed domestic fixture is against Nyasa Big Bullets on 20 September 2026.
