Ssenyondo targets more trophies after KCCA’s 1-0 FUFA Super 8 win
KCCA beat NEC 1-0 at Hamz Stadium to win the FUFA Super 8, and coach Brian Ssenyondo hopes the trophy begins a successful tenure.
KCCA beat NEC 1-0 at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, to win the FUFA Super 8. Head coach Brian Ssenyondo wants the victory to launch a sustained trophy-winning period during his time with the Kampala club.
Said Mayanja scored the only goal, giving KCCA their first major trophy in seven years. Their previous success came in the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup in Kigali, making the FUFA Super 8 triumph an important return to winning silverware.
Ssenyondo accepted that the narrow lead left his team under pressure, particularly after the interval. He also identified finishing as an area for improvement, saying KCCA must make better use of the opportunities they create rather than spend long periods protecting a one-goal advantage.
The coach said the result had value beyond a pre-season competition. KCCA have a young group that includes players without previous trophy experience, and he believes lifting the cup can help establish the winning mentality required for the competitive season.
KCCA finished second in the 2025 Uganda Premier League with 62 points from 30 matches, recording 19 wins, five draws and six defeats while scoring 46 goals and conceding 22. Their recent league sequence included wins over Mbarara City, UPDF and Maroons, alongside draws against URA and Vipers.
That league record provides the platform for a stronger challenge when the new campaign begins on August 28. The Super 8 victory gives Ssenyondo and his squad an early reward, but the coach has made clear that the first trophy of his tenure is intended to lead to further success at Lugogo.
