Premier League gives update on Manchester City’s 115-charge case
Premier League chief Richard Masters says Manchester City’s 115-charge case is taking longer than expected but must follow its due process.
The Premier League has acknowledged that the verdict in Manchester City’s 115-charge case is taking longer than expected, with chief executive Richard Masters saying the process must continue before any outcome is announced.
City are facing 115 allegations of financial impropriety, including alleged breaches said to have taken place between 2009 and 2018. The case has remained unresolved while the league’s disciplinary process runs its course.
Masters said he could not provide a fresh timetable or disclose additional details about the proceedings. He indicated that the Premier League’s rules require the case to move through the established legal route rather than being decided publicly before that process is complete.
The hearing lasted 12 weeks, a length that has contributed to the delay in reaching a verdict. Masters accepted that the wait had extended beyond what was initially expected, while also recognising the desire for clarity over the case.
The league’s position means City must continue waiting for the independent process to reach its conclusion. Until then, the allegations remain unresolved and no ruling has been issued on the charges.
The scale of the case and the period covered by the alleged breaches make it one of the most significant disciplinary matters in Premier League history. However, Masters said the complexity of the proceedings prevented him from offering anything more specific about when the verdict might be delivered.
