Sunderland target Napoli midfielder Frank Anguissa this summer

Sunderland are interested in signing Napoli midfielder Frank Anguissa this summer. The 30-year-old scored four goals and supplied two assists in 22 appearances for the Italian club last season.

Anguissa has been an important part of Napoli’s midfield and is regarded as one of the more experienced central players in Serie A. His contract is due to expire at the end of next season, a situation that could give Sunderland an opportunity to pursue a deal during the current window.

The Cameroon international is primarily a box-to-box midfielder, but he can also operate in a deeper defensive role. His game includes strong challenges, regaining possession and clearing danger when opponents apply pressure. He is also capable of contributing to the build-up with his passing.

That range would give Sunderland additional options in the centre of the pitch under head coach Regis Le Bris. Anguissa’s previous Premier League experience could also help him settle at the Stadium of Light, while his age and top-level background would provide competition for a regular place.

Sunderland’s recent results have included three wins, one draw and one defeat. They beat York 5-1, Chelsea 2-1 and Everton 3-1, drew 0-0 with Manchester United and lost 4-2 away to Liverpool. Those results produced 12 goals and seven conceded, highlighting a side that has generally been productive but still has room to strengthen.

Their next fixture is away to Ipswich in the Premier League on August 22, 2026. Anguissa’s ability to cover both midfield roles would give Le Bris another experienced option as Sunderland prepare for the demands of the coming campaign. A short-term agreement could appeal to the club as it considers adding quality and depth without committing to a lengthy contract.
