Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon launched with 2,000 target

The Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon has been unveiled for October 10, 2026, with organisers targeting 2,000 participants across two race categories.

The Tampico Accra Inter-City Marathon has been launched with organisers targeting 2,000 participants for the event on Saturday, October 10, 2026. The race will begin and end at the Trust Sports Emporium, commonly known as the Bukom Boxing Arena.

Medievents Consult is organising the marathon with Tampico as headline sponsor. The launch took place at the Zimansky Hotel in Roman Ridge and was attended by sports administrators, athletes, para athletes, corporate sponsors, security-service representatives and media personnel.

The programme will include 21-kilometre and 5-kilometre races. Elite runners will compete alongside recreational athletes, corporate teams, schools, fitness groups and other keep-fit participants. The route will pass through sections of Accra before returning to the Bukom Boxing Arena for activities connected to the event.

A new electronic timing system will be used in this year’s competition with support from Ghana Athletics, which has endorsed the marathon. The organisers expect the technology to produce more precise finishing times, reduce disputes over results and give athletes dependable performance records.

Registration costs GH¢100 and is available by dialling *380*21#. The event will also include Tampico Day, which is intended to combine the race with activities promoting fitness, recreation and healthy living.

National Sports Authority Director-General Yaw Ampofo-Ankrah, who launched the marathon, said the initiative could support physical fitness, healthier lifestyles and broader involvement in sport. He also praised the organisers for continuing with the project after several years.

Medievents Consult General Manager Henri Senyo Penni said corporate organisations, institutions, schools, fitness clubs and individuals are being encouraged to support the 2026 edition. With registration open, preparations are continuing ahead of the October race.
