Uganda Baby Cricket Cranes secure promotion with win over Sierra Leone

Uganda’s Baby Cricket Cranes have secured promotion to the top flight of African cricket following a 98-run victory over Sierra Leone. This fourth win of the Division 2 qualifiers ensures the team achieves their primary objective during the tournament in Rwanda.

After winning the toss, Uganda elected to bat first. The innings faced difficulties despite the team's recent scoring form, but a half-century from Robert Owili helped stabilize the total. This was Owili's third half-century of the tournament. Richard Sohera provided the only other significant contribution with 31 runs, allowing Uganda to reach a total of 152 runs.

Sierra Leone initially kept the match competitive, reaching 40/3. However, the momentum shifted when the slow bowling of Hamidu Munigwa and Jackson Asiku dismantled the middle order. Munigwa finished with figures of 3/6, while Asiku took 3/13 to secure the win.

The result confirms Uganda's promotion to the first division. They join Rwanda, Nigeria, Kenya, Namibia, and Tanzania in the top tier. While the remaining fixtures will determine the overall tournament winner, Uganda's ascent is already established.

Uganda will face second-placed Rwanda in their final match of the competition. The team remains unbeaten heading into the concluding fixtures.
