Undefeated ‘Tito’ Elizondo and Silva Gonzalez set for Reno bout

Miguel “Tito” Elizondo and Smathy Silva Gonzalez will meet in an all-undefeated fight in Reno on Friday night. Elizondo enters the chief supporting bout with a 2-0 professional record, while Sparks fighter Gonzalez is 5-0-1 with four knockouts.

The contest brings together boxers from Northern Nevada at the Grande Exposition Hall inside the Silver Legacy Resort Casino. Elizondo is from Carson City and Gonzalez is based in Sparks, making the fight more than a local meeting between two young professionals who have yet to lose.

Elizondo will be competing in only his third professional bout, and each of his first three opponents has been unbeaten as a professional before facing him. He began his career shortly after turning 19, defeating previously unbeaten Yoel Sandobal Ochoa over four rounds at the same venue in March.

Before turning professional, Elizondo built a 49-20 amateur record and won the National Silver Gloves championship three times. He is trained by his grandfather, Jose Elizondo Sr., and comes from a boxing family that includes his uncles Diego and Jose “Chuy” Elizondo. His cousin Christian Avalos is also scheduled to fight on Friday, against Diego Dominguez in a junior welterweight contest.

Elizondo and Gonzalez have already shared a ring in training. They sparred two or three times earlier this year, with sessions lasting between eight and 10 rounds, giving Elizondo some familiarity with the opponent he will face in his third professional appearance.

The card’s 10-round main event features Kenny Davis Jr. defending the WBC USA lightweight title against Matt Conway. The first bell is scheduled for 7pm, with the action taking place at 407 N. Virginia Street in Reno.
