Wahab Abubakar joins Botswana’s Black Lions FC from Holy Stars

Ghana goalkeeper Wahab Abubakar has joined Botswana’s Black Lions FC after leaving Holy Stars FC. The transfer was completed on 23 August 2026, and the 22-year-old has agreed to remain with the Botswana club until 30 June 2027.

Abubakar’s arrival gives Black Lions an additional option in goal as they assemble their squad for the 2026-27 season. The move takes him away from Ghanaian club football after two seasons at Holy Stars, where he had played since joining from Shooting Stars in August 2024.

His route to Black Lions began at Accra Lions. Abubakar joined that club in August 2022 before moving to Shooting Stars in July 2023. He then spent two seasons with Holy Stars, completing a sequence of club changes that has now taken him to Botswana.

The goalkeeper was born in Adabraka on 21 April 2004. He stands 1.94 metres tall and is right-footed. Each of the recorded club moves in his career has been made in his capacity as a goalkeeper.

Abubakar’s contract with Black Lions extends through the end of June 2027. The agreement places him with the club for the 2026-27 campaign and gives the Botswana side a goalkeeper who has previously played for Accra Lions, Shooting Stars and Holy Stars.

The move is the latest step in Abubakar’s career at 22. He now continues with Black Lions after his progression through three Ghanaian clubs, beginning with Accra Lions, followed by Shooting Stars and Holy Stars, before his switch to Botswana.
