WAKO Africa denies new roles for Wilson Okon and Abubakar Yakubu

The African Kickboxing Confederation has officially denied that Wilson Okon and Abubakar Yakubu have received new appointments within the continental body. This follows claims made by the two Nigerians, who shared documents on social media suggesting they had secured fresh roles.

In a formal letter addressed to Javan Bernard on August 12, 2026, WAKO Africa President Aslam Mahomed clarified that the positions being claimed are no longer valid. Mahomed stated that the appointments mentioned by the duo relate to previous roles they once held rather than current ones.

Specifically, the confederation confirmed that Wilson Okon does not hold the position of WAKO Africa Technical Committee Chairman. Similarly, Abubakar Yakubu does not currently serve as the WAKO Africa Disciplinary Committee Chairman. The organization noted that neither man is authorized to represent himself as an official of WAKO Africa.

The denial is linked to the ongoing status of the Kickboxing Federation of Nigeria. The continental body explained that the Nigerian federation remains suspended from WAKO activities. This suspension will remain in place until the necessary election processes are completed in accordance with previous directives.

Mahomed emphasized that the suspension applies to the Nigerian federation and all its representatives. This includes Okon, Yakubu, and any other individual attempting to represent Nigeria while the suspension is active. The African body stated it will continue to uphold the position set by the WAKO International Federation.

Until the appropriate authorities formally lift the suspension, no individual from Nigeria is permitted to use previous WAKO Africa appointments to act or represent the organization in an official capacity.
