Werro, Russell and Yavi set records in Wanda Diamond League
Audrey Werro, Winfred Yavi and Masai Russell set meeting records in Lausanne as Diamond League action returned to the race for the final.
Audrey Werro, Winfred Yavi and Masai Russell all set meeting records at Athletissima in Lausanne on Friday night, with the three performances adding fresh momentum to the Wanda Diamond League season.
Werro won the women’s 800 metres in 1:55.33. The Swiss runner resisted a strong challenge from Femke Broeders-Bol, who finished in 1:55.41 and lowered the Dutch record in the event.
Broeders-Bol’s time placed her just behind Werro, but the result belonged to the Lausanne winner. Werro’s 1:55.33 became the new mark for the meeting and provided one of the night’s three records at the Stade de la Pontaise.
Winfred Yavi produced the second record in the 3000m steeplechase. She took victory in 9:00.04, another meeting best as the competition for places in the Wanda Diamond League Final resumed.
Masai Russell completed the record treble by winning the women’s 100m hurdles in 12.27. It was her fifth meeting record in five Diamond League races this season, extending a run of record-setting performances across her campaign.
The Lausanne programme therefore delivered records in the 800m, 3000m steeplechase and 100m hurdles. Werro and Yavi claimed victories in their events, while Russell’s hurdles mark underlined her continued record-breaking form as the Diamond League standings race moved forward.
