West Brom agree Championship signing as Tunde misses Levante squad

West Bromwich Albion have agreed a deal to sign Levante youngster Kareem Tunde, with the 21-year-old left out of the Spanish club’s squad for Monday’s match against Osasuna. The defender is expected to complete his move to the Championship once the remaining formalities are settled.

Tunde did not travel with Levante to El Sadar, a decision that points to the transfer reaching its final stages. He had been part of the club’s first-team plans and was being considered for the trip before staying behind as the move to England progressed.

West Brom will pay Levante a guaranteed €3 million (£2.6m), with a further €2m (£1.7m) available through performance-related bonuses. The total package could therefore reach €5m (£4.3m). Levante will also keep a 20 per cent share of any future transfer involving the player.

Tunde developed through Levante’s academy and made his senior debut around nine months ago. Since then, he has appeared 21 times under manager Luís Castro, playing 1,143 minutes for the Spanish side.

Although he was not originally established as a right-back, Tunde moved into the position during pre-season because Levante had limited cover there. Castro continued to use him on the right after seeing his performances in the role, giving the youngster valuable experience in senior football.

The agreement gives West Brom a young player who has already played regularly at first-team level, while Levante retain a potential financial benefit if his value increases in England. The immediate priority for the Baggies is to complete the administrative steps required to confirm the transfer.
