Willy Moloto addresses Thabang Matuludi absence and transfer links

Polokwane City head coach Willy Moloto has addressed the recent absence of defender Thabang Matuludi from the matchday squad. The 26-year-old right-back has been the subject of intense transfer speculation, with links to major clubs including Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns.

Moloto denied that the player's unavailability is connected to the ongoing rumors regarding his future. He noted that public speculation often arises whenever a player is not visible in the lineup. The coach clarified that Matuludi has been managing minor physical issues following his involvement with Bafana Bafana during the 2026 FIFA World Cup preparations.

According to Moloto, the defender picked up knocks during training sessions. The coach also suggested that the current team performance has limited the need for tactical changes. He stated that because the squad is performing well, there is no immediate necessity to alter the starting lineup.

Matuludi's absence has also allowed for other players to feature. Moloto mentioned that Surprise Manthosi has been given opportunities, noting that the youngster performed well despite making errors during the recent league match against Stellenbosch. The coach expressed confidence that Matuludi will receive more playing time given the number of upcoming fixtures.
