Yakubu Aiyegbeni selects his all-time Super Eagles starting XI

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has revealed his personal selection for the greatest Nigeria starting eleven. The former forward, who earned 57 caps and scored 21 goals for the national team between 2000 and 2012, shared his choices via a video on the official Super Eagles X account.

His selection features several prominent names from different eras of Nigerian football. Vincent Enyeama occupies the goalkeeper position, while Joseph Yobo and Danny Shittu form the central defensive pairing. The full-back positions consist of Celestine Babayaro on the left and Bright Osayi-Samuel on the right. The inclusion of Osayi-Samuel is a notable choice, as the younger player was selected over more established defensive veterans.

In the midfield, Yakubu opted for Sunday Oliseh as the holding player. Oliseh was a key figure for the national side during the 1990s and early 2000s. He is joined in the middle by Austin "Jay-Jay" Okocha. The attacking lineup on the wings features Finidi George and Julius Aghahowa.

The striking duo selected by Yakubu consists of himself and Nwankwo Kanu. This choice places the former striker alongside one of the most prominent figures in the country's football history.

The list has drawn attention due to the absence of several high-profile players. Most notably, Yakubu did not include former Chelsea midfielder John Mikel Obi, despite the midfielder's decorated career. Current Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen was also left out of the starting eleven.
