Addo labels Ghana Premier League GFA’s prized product for 2026/27

GFA Vice-President Mark Addo has described the Ghana Premier League as the association’s prized product as every club receives GH¢1 million before the 2026/27 season. The payment is part of a GH¢9.5 million prize and incentive package for the campaign.

Addo made the comments after the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram. He said the advance funding marked a significant change in how domestic clubs are supported before the start of a season.

The money is intended to help clubs assemble their squads, manage logistics and cover other operating costs as they prepare for the new campaign. The league is scheduled to begin on September 5.

Addo also linked the financial support to a wider plan for improving the competition’s stability and commercial value. The GFA is seeking stronger broadcasting and sponsorship opportunities, while its marketing department continues work on attracting partners suited to the league.

The 2026/27 reward structure gives the champions GH¢3 million and a JAC vehicle. The runners-up will receive GH¢1 million, while the clubs finishing third and fourth will earn GH¢800,000 and GH¢750,000 respectively.

The GFA’s approach combines direct payments to all Premier League clubs with increased incentives for the leading teams. Addo’s comments point to an effort to make the competition more financially sustainable while raising its value as Ghana’s leading domestic football property.
