Adeboye calls for Nigeria-Italy sports partnership for youth

Hon. Adeyinka Anthony Adeyinka, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Grassroots Sports Development, has advocated for enhanced sporting cooperation between Nigeria and Italy. The SSA aims to use this partnership to unlock global prospects for young Nigerian athletes through talent development and youth empowerment.

During a visit to the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, His Excellency Roberto Mengoni, Adeboye discussed how strategic ties could improve the Nigerian sports ecosystem. The talks focused on establishing routes for talented youths to access international exposure, technical training, and connections with Italian sporting institutions.

Adeboye stated that grassroots development requires more than just finding talent. He noted that the process must include building the necessary networks and environments to help athletes reach their maximum potential. He argued that international partnerships can supplement domestic efforts by providing young players with additional growth opportunities.

Specific areas identified for potential cooperation include coaching, sports science, sports management, and youth programmes. The SSA also highlighted athlete exchanges and talent development as key sectors where Italy's sporting experience could benefit Nigeria. He noted that connecting Nigerian talent with global platforms and expertise is essential for the future of the nation's sports.

This initiative aligns with the Federal Government's goal to use grassroots sports as a tool for national growth and youth development. Adeboye emphasized that the objective is to create a clear progression for athletes moving from community-level sports to continental and international competitions.

The engagement with Ambassador Mengoni is part of a broader strategy by the SSA's office to secure international investment, knowledge, and partnerships. Adeboye reaffirmed his commitment to working with foreign governments and private organisations to expand opportunities for young Nigerians.
