Alan Fritz names Rocco Meiring the best coach in South Africa

Alan Fritz has described Rocco Meiring as the premier coach in the country, spanning all sporting disciplines. Fritz stated that Meiring is the best in terms of performance, not just within the swimming community but across the entire sporting landscape.

Meiring's recent success includes guiding Pieter Coetze to three medals at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore. This follows Meiring's previous achievement last year, where he coached Tatjana Smith to two Olympic medals.

The former swimming coach compared Meiring's expertise to that of Springbok rugby coach Rassie Erasmus. Fritz noted that both men possess a deep understanding of their respective sports and a clear vision for their athletes. He also suggested that Meiring's ability to produce world-class champions could be even greater if he had access to superior facilities.

Fritz, a former member of the SASCOC board, believes the nomination is well-earned. Drawing on his own background as a coach, he identified swimming coaching as one of the most difficult roles in sport. He noted that Meiring works constantly to ensure his swimmers remain motivated and perform at peak levels.

Meiring is a nominee for the upcoming awards ceremony at Sun City on 23 August. He will be competing in a competitive category against cricket mentor Shukri Conrad and athletics sprint coach Thabo Matebedi. Fritz confirmed he sent a message to Meiring to express his gratitude for his significant impact on South African sport.
