Alan Picasso targets featherweight world title in WBC Silver debut
Alan Picasso will face Maicol Rincón for the WBC Silver Featherweight Title on August 29 as he begins his push towards a world championship.
Alan Picasso will begin his campaign at featherweight against Maicol Rincón on August 29, with the WBC Silver Featherweight Title at stake. The bout will take place at Sala Urbana in Naucalpan, State of Mexico, Mexico.
The fight marks Picasso’s first appearance as part of the Canelo Team, led by Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez and trainer Eddy Reynoso. The Mexican boxer has set his sights on becoming a world champion at 126 pounds and sees the contest with Rincón as the opening step in that pursuit.
Picasso’s immediate task is to establish himself in the featherweight division. Winning the WBC Silver belt would give his move to 126 pounds a title foundation, while also supporting his longer-term objective of securing a world championship opportunity.
The boxer arrives at this stage with experience against some of the leading names in the sport. His bout with Naoya Inoue has been an important part of that education, giving Picasso lessons that he intends to apply as he starts a new phase of his career.
Picasso has not treated the Inoue experience as the endpoint of his development. Instead, he is seeking to use what he learned from that challenge to shape his work with the Canelo Team and improve his position in the featherweight ranks.
The contest against Rincón therefore carries significance beyond the silver title itself. It is Picasso’s first chance to put his new team, division and world-title ambition together in the ring, with the route to the top beginning in Naucalpan.
