Alaves open La Liga 2026/27 season with 3-0 win over Getafe

Alaves started La Liga 2026/27 with a 3-0 victory over Getafe after Kiko Femenia’s dismissal left the visitors with 10 men.

Alaves began the 2026/27 La Liga season with a 3-0 victory over Getafe on Saturday, 15 August, in the opening round. The hosts scored all three goals after Kiko Femenia was sent off late in the first half, leaving Getafe with 10 players.

Femenia’s dismissal followed a high challenge and changed the balance of the match in Vitoria. Getafe stayed level until the 73rd minute, when Nahuel Tenaglia put Alaves ahead with a header.

The home side added two goals during stoppage time. Mariano, the former Real Madrid striker, doubled the advantage with a curling finish from the edge of the penalty area before Mikel Rodriguez completed the scoring after being set up by Mariano.

The victory gives Alaves an early advantage in the new campaign after they had been listed 10th in the pre-match table with no points from no games. Getafe had been listed third on the same basis, so the opening-day result established the first competitive separation between the teams.

Alaves had entered the match with three wins, one draw and one defeat in their previous five results. Those games included victories over Girona, Oviedo and Barcelona, a draw with Eibar and a loss to Rayo Vallecano.

Getafe had also recorded three wins, one draw and one defeat in their preceding five matches. Their wins came against Tenerife, Reading FC and Osasuna, while they drew with Valladolid and lost to Elche. Alaves’ stronger finish, combined with the numerical disadvantage facing Getafe for the second half, produced a clear start to the league season for the hosts.
