Silver Strikers beat Ekhaya 3-0 to stay top of FDH Bank Premiership
Silver Strikers reached 28 points from 13 matches after beating Ekhaya 3-0, with Zebron Kalima scoring twice in the second half.
Silver Strikers strengthened their position at the top of the FDH Bank Premiership with a 3-0 victory over Ekhaya in round 13. The result moved the Central Bankers to 28 points from 13 matches, while Ekhaya remained on 17 points after the defeat.
The match at Silver Stadium in Lilongwe was goalless at half-time after a closely contested opening 45 minutes. Silver Strikers had to wait until the second half to turn their control into goals, with Zebron Kalima breaking the deadlock in the 59th minute.
Kalima struck again two minutes later to give Silver Strikers a two-goal advantage. The hosts added a third goal in the 90th minute, completing a result that extended their lead at the summit.
Silver Strikers entered the game unbeaten in their previous five league matches. They had drawn three times and won twice during that run, including victories over Karonga United and Red Lions FC. Their other draws came against Mitundu Baptist, Chitipa United and CIVO United.
Ekhaya’s recent record had been less consistent. The side had secured one win, drawn three and lost once in its five matches before facing the leaders. Ekhaya had held Nyasa Big Bullets and Mitundu Baptist to goalless draws, but could not maintain that defensive resilience against Silver Strikers.
The victory keeps Silver Strikers first in the standings as the league leaders continue their push from the top. Ekhaya, meanwhile, stay seventh and must recover points after conceding three goals in the second half.
