Alhassan Yusuf named MLS Player of the Week after 3-0 hat-trick
Nigeria midfielder Alhassan Yusuf has won MLS Player of the Week after scoring three times in New England Revolution’s 3-0 victory.
Alhassan Yusuf has been named Major League Soccer Player of the Week after scoring a hat-trick in New England Revolution’s 3-0 win over D.C. United on Wednesday. The award follows a decisive performance from the Nigeria international, who accounted for every goal in New England’s victory.
Yusuf opened his account during the first half and added a second before the interval. Those two goals left the Revolution in control at the break, before the midfielder completed his treble six minutes after the hour mark. His third goal confirmed a comfortable away victory for Marko Mitrović’s team.
The result ended New England’s three-match winless run and moved the Revolution to fourth place in the Eastern Conference. They have 33 points from 20 league matches, giving the side a stronger position after a run without a victory.
Yusuf’s three goals against D.C. United took his league total for the season to five. He has also provided two assists in 20 appearances for the Revolution, making the hat-trick his most productive match of the campaign so far.
New England will now return home for their next league fixture. The Revolution are scheduled to face New York City FC at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough on Sunday, with Yusuf’s award coming after his contribution to the side’s latest result.
