Amanda Serrano reaches 50 wins with majority decision in WBA bout
Amanda Serrano secured her 50th professional victory by majority decision over Lucrecia Manzur and retained her WBA and WBO featherweight titles.
Amanda Serrano recorded the 50th win of her professional career by defeating Lucrecia Manzur on a majority decision at Pechanga Resort Casino in Temecula, California. The Puerto Rican retained her WBA and WBO featherweight championships after a demanding 12-round contest.
Two judges scored the fight 116-112 for Serrano, while the third had it level at 114-114. Manzur pressed the champion and enjoyed a strong fourth round, forcing Serrano to rely on body punches and counter-attacks before she established greater control in the later stages.
The victory took Serrano’s record to 50-4-1, including 32 knockouts. It also added another significant milestone to a professional career that began nearly 18 years ago and has included world titles in seven weight divisions and undisputed championships.
The contest was also the first unified women’s world title fight held over 12 rounds of two minutes each. Serrano’s success therefore combined a landmark career result with a notable development in women’s championship boxing.
Jahmal Harvey produced the quickest finish on the card, stopping Hammet Keb at two minutes and 48 seconds of the second round with a right hand. The result moved the US Olympian to 4-0, with three victories inside the distance.
Melissa Mortensen won the vacant WBA super bantamweight title despite being knocked down by Mayelli Flores in the second round and hurt again in the fifth. She recovered to take a split decision, with two judges scoring 95-94 in her favour and the third awarding the same score to Flores.
