Amar Dedic interested in Newcastle United move from Benfica
Benfica defender Amar Dedic is keen on a transfer to Newcastle United, aided by existing relationships with the Magpies' coaching staff.
Amar Dedic is interested in joining Newcastle United from Benfica. The 23-year-old defender views a move to the Premier League positively as he seeks the next stage of his professional career.
Newcastle United have established connections with the Bosnia international through their coaching staff. Manager Matthias Jaissle previously oversaw Dedic's development during their time at Liefering and Red Bull Salzburg. Assistant coach Florens Koch also maintains a close relationship with the player, having worked on his individual progress at both Austrian clubs.
Both Jaissle and Koch have monitored Dedic's career since their time in Austria. This includes his recent performances for Benfica, where he became a regular starter and competed in the Champions League. While an unnamed German club has made enquiries, Newcastle's interest is considered more concrete.
Benfica has set a valuation of €35m (£30.3m) for the defender. Although Newcastle is aware of this asking price, no formal offer has been submitted to the Portuguese side yet. The financial structure of the deal may favour the English club, as Benfica is unable to match the salary Newcastle can provide.
The coming days are expected to be important for the potential transfer. The move now depends on Newcastle United deciding to submit an official proposal to Benfica to meet their valuation.
