Andy Yiadom speaks after AFC Wimbledon move until January 2027

Ghana defender Andy Yiadom has joined AFC Wimbledon on a five-month deal and is eager to contribute after almost 400 English Football League appearances.

Ghana international Andy Yiadom has joined AFC Wimbledon on a five-month contract running until January 2027, with the 34-year-old defender expressing his enthusiasm about the move to the League Two club.

Yiadom said he valued the chance to continue his playing career at Wimbledon and intended to make a strong contribution during his time there. He also indicated that he was looking forward to becoming involved in the team’s upcoming matches.

The Ghanaian arrives with extensive experience from English football. He has made almost 400 appearances across the country’s three professional divisions, giving Wimbledon a player who has spent much of his career competing within the English Football League.

His professional journey has included Barnet and Barnsley before an eight-year spell at Reading. Yiadom made 253 appearances for Reading, where his performances were recognised when he was selected as the club’s Player of the Season for the 2021/22 campaign.

That Reading period accounts for a significant part of the defender’s career and remains the longest club association listed in his playing history. His move to Wimbledon gives him the opportunity to continue playing in England after those years of service at the Berkshire club.

Yiadom’s agreement is short-term, but Wimbledon will have his experience available through January 2027. The Ghana international’s stated priority is to integrate with the squad, take part in the matches ahead and provide his best effort during the spell.

For Yiadom, the move extends a career that has covered Barnet, Barnsley and Reading while keeping him in the English Football League. For Wimbledon, it brings in a defender with nearly four hundred appearances across the three divisions and a record of long-term involvement at Reading.
