Asante Kotoko finish Accra camp before new Ghana Premier League season
Asante Kotoko have completed a two-week Accra camp after 1-0 friendly wins over Semper Fi and Heart of Lions ahead of the new Ghana Premier League season.
Asante Kotoko have completed their two-week training camp in Accra with a 1-0 friendly victory over Semper Fi. The Porcupine Warriors will now return to Kumasi as preparations continue for the new Ghana Premier League season.
The Accra programme was used to increase the squad’s preparation and included several friendly matches. Kotoko also recorded a 1-0 win against Heart of Lions earlier in the camp, giving them victories in both of the two confirmed matches from their stay in the capital.
Their next fixture is against Hearts of Oak in the Democracy Cup on Friday, August 28. The match will be played at Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi and will give new head coach Eric Tinkler another chance to examine his squad before the league begins.
The South African coach was appointed as Kotoko’s new head coach as part of major changes to the club’s football structure. Former Netherlands and Ajax goalkeeper Stanley Menzo has also joined the organisation as Director of Football, adding a new senior football role ahead of the campaign.
Kotoko are preparing for the new season after a difficult 2025/26 Ghana Premier League campaign. Their two-week work in Accra, followed by the planned meeting with Hearts of Oak, forms part of the club’s effort to build under a changed technical and football leadership team.
The league campaign will begin with Kotoko travelling to face newly promoted Debibi United. The club will therefore complete its immediate preparations in Kumasi, with the Democracy Cup serving as the final stated assessment opportunity before that opening away fixture.
