Ipswich goalkeeper Van Oevelen set to join Valencia on loan

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Kayne Van Oevelen is set to travel to Valencia and complete a season-long loan move after leaving the club’s plans.

Ipswich Town goalkeeper Kayne Van Oevelen is set to travel to Valencia to complete a season-long loan move. The 23-year-old Dutchman has been left out of Ipswich’s plans for the Premier League season despite arriving during the summer transfer window.

Ipswich have approved his trip to Spain, with the goalkeeper expected to arrive in Valencia on Monday. The move has taken several days longer than initially expected, but it has continued to progress and is now in place for completion.

Van Oevelen’s omission from a video presenting the 26 players Gary O’Neil is relying on this season has strengthened the expectation that he will leave. He had appeared in Ipswich’s squad list published a few days earlier and had been given the number 31 shirt, making his absence from the later squad presentation notable.

Valencia are expected to add him as their sixth signing of the summer. The Spanish club are managed by Carlos Corberán, and the loan would give Van Oevelen a move to the Mestalla after only a short period with the Premier League side.

Ipswich appear ready to continue with Kjell Scherpen, Christian Walton and Alex Palmer as their goalkeeper options. Palmer’s recent absence with an elbow problem is understood to have contributed to Van Oevelen remaining in England for a few extra days to assist the squad before travelling.

The transfer comes as Ipswich sit fifth in the Premier League with three points from one match, having won once with a 2-1 goal record. Their recent five-match sequence is three wins and two draws, including a 3-0 victory over QPR, a 2-2 draw at Southampton, a goalless draw at West Brom, a 2-1 win at Charlton and a 2-2 draw against Middlesbrough. Ipswich’s next league fixture is away to Manchester United on August 30.
