Asantehene to tee off Millennium Excellence Week in Washington

Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II will open Millennium Excellence Week 2026 on Monday, August 24, by hitting the ceremonial first ball at the MEA Otumfuo Invitational in Washington DC. The golf event will be held at the Army Navy Country Club in Arlington, Virginia.

The invitational is being organised in honour of the Asantehene, patron of the Millennium Excellence Foundation. It will bring together Africa-focused investors, family office principals, founders, business leaders, diplomats, sponsors and other partners as the week-long programme begins.

The Army Navy Country Club was established in 1924 and is regarded as one of Washington’s historic sporting venues. Its past guests have included prominent military leaders and five US presidents, adding a notable setting to the opening event.

The field is expected to include Kodwo, also known as Kojo, Mills, the founder and managing partner of Vibranium Capital Group. Mills has spent 25 years investing across Africa, with the firm generating more than $1 billion in investment returns during that period.

Olajuwon Ajanaku, co-founder of Eastside Golf, and David Lubotta, president and managing partner of DML Capital Partners, are also due to play. Eastside Golf is working to broaden access to the sport, while Lubotta’s family office invests in health and wellness, consumer brands, technology and real estate.

The tournament is intended to create an informal setting for participants to establish relationships and discuss possible partnerships before the week’s formal programme. Those conversations are expected to continue at the Africa Business and Investment Summit at MGM National Harbor, alongside activities centred on leadership, investment, business, culture and excellence.
