Ernest Poku set to join Fiorentina after one season at Leverkusen

Ernest Poku is on the verge of moving from Bayer Leverkusen to Fiorentina, with the Italian club set to sign the Dutch-Ghanaian forward during the current transfer window. The 22-year-old winger is expected to join on an initial loan arrangement that includes an option for Fiorentina to make the transfer permanent.

Negotiations between the clubs are understood to be at an advanced stage, with Poku having agreed to the proposed move. The transfer would come only one season after he arrived at Leverkusen, where he quickly established himself as an effective attacking player.

Poku made 29 appearances for the German club across all competitions last season. He scored five goals and supplied five assists, giving him 10 direct goal contributions during his first campaign with Leverkusen.

His performances attracted interest from several clubs across Europe. Fiorentina have now moved closest to securing his services, although the permanent part of the deal would depend on whether the Italian side chooses to activate the option at the end of the loan period.

Poku remains tied to Leverkusen by a contract running until June 2030. His proposed departure therefore gives the German club the possibility of retaining control over his future if Fiorentina do not complete a permanent transfer after the season.

The move is being lined up as Leverkusen prepare to start their German league campaign. The club are scheduled to open their season at home against SV Elversberg, while Poku’s next chapter is expected to take place in Italy with Fiorentina.
