Edo Queens captain targets WAFU-B glory ahead of AS GNN clash

Edo Queens captain Odiagbe Deborah says the Nigerian champions are ready to open their WAFU-B campaign against Niger’s AS GNN.

Edo Queens captain Odiagbe Deborah has set her sights on another WAFU Zone B Women’s Champions League Qualifying Tournament title as the Nigerian champions prepare to face AS GNN of Niger in Burkina Faso.

The opening Group B fixture will begin Edo Queens’ latest attempt to reach the CAF Women’s Champions League. Odiagbe believes the squad has the mindset and preparation required to start the campaign positively and pursue a place in the continental competition.

Edo Queens have previous experience of winning the WAFU-B tournament, having claimed the title two years ago. Odiagbe was part of that squad, and she views that experience as an advantage as the team begins another qualifying campaign.

The defender considers the first match against AS GNN particularly significant. A strong start would give Edo Queens early momentum in a group that also contains ASEC Mimosas of Côte d’Ivoire and Ghana’s Ampem Darkoa Ladies FC.

Odiagbe’s ambition extends beyond helping Edo Queens progress from the group. She wants to lift the trophy again, but this time as captain, which would make a second triumph especially meaningful for her.

The captain’s confidence places emphasis on the squad’s collective spirit as well as its experience from the previous success. Edo Queens will now look to turn that belief into a winning start against AS GNN and take an early step towards repeating their WAFU-B achievement.
