Benjamin Fredrick and two Nigerians named in Brentford’s 2026 squad
Benjamin Fredrick, Kaye Furo and Jayden Meghoma are in Brentford’s Premier League squad, with Fredrick returning after an eight-month injury absence.
Brentford have named three Nigerians in their 2026 Premier League squad, including defender Benjamin Fredrick after his return to full fitness. Fredrick will wear number 48, while Kaye Furo has been assigned number 47 and Jayden Meghoma will use 21.
Fredrick is a Nigeria international who missed eight months after suffering an injury during his loan spell at Belgian club FC Dender. He did not feature in Brentford’s pre-season matches as he continued his recovery, but head coach Keith Andrews has included him in the first-team group for the new campaign.
His inclusion follows a permanent move into Brentford’s senior setup during the summer. The club’s other Nigerian-linked players are Furo, the son of former Nigeria international Furo Iyenemi, and Meghoma, a left-back who spent last season with Scottish side Rangers.
Furo has represented Belgium at youth level and spent part of the summer in Nigeria. He is now leaning towards switching his international allegiance to Nigeria. Meghoma remains eligible for England and has indicated that he is open to representing Nigeria.
Brentford are listed fourth in the 2026 Premier League table with zero points from zero matches and a 0-0 goal record. Their recent five-match sequence before the new campaign was two draws, two defeats and one win: 1-1 away to Liverpool, 2-2 against Crystal Palace, a 3-0 loss at Manchester City, a 3-0 victory over West Ham and a 2-1 defeat at Manchester United.
The Premier League season began with Arsenal beating Coventry City 3-0. Brentford’s first listed fixture is at home against Tottenham on August 22, giving Fredrick, Furo and Meghoma the possibility of being involved after their inclusion in the squad.
