Osimhen scores twice in Galatasaray's 4-0 win over Erzurumspor

Victor Osimhen scored twice and set up another goal as Galatasaray defeated Erzurumspor 4-0, prompting fresh debate about his future.

Victor Osimhen scored twice and provided an assist as Galatasaray defeated Erzurumspor 4-0, producing one of his most influential performances for the Turkish club. The Nigeria striker helped create Yunus Akgun’s goal before adding two of his own.

The 27-year-old’s display revived the argument over whether he should be playing in Turkey. Supporters who believe he belongs among the world’s leading forwards used the performance to challenge earlier criticism from British pundits, including former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler.

Osimhen’s contribution extended beyond his finishing. He led the press, worked defensively and played a key role in the build-up to Galatasaray’s opening goal. That all-round effort strengthened the view among his admirers that he is carrying a major share of the team’s attacking responsibility.

The reaction was not entirely positive for Galatasaray. Some supporters criticised manager Okan Buruk and winger Baris Alper Yilmaz, arguing that Osimhen is doing too much while other players are not matching his effort. They also expressed concern about the team’s readiness for its forthcoming Champions League fixtures and compared Galatasaray unfavourably with Besiktas.

Osimhen’s future was another major part of the discussion after the win. Al-Hilal has been linked with a possible €150 million offer, while supporters debated whether remaining in the Turkish league would limit the striker’s progress. Others believe a move to Saudi Arabia could become a defining next step in his career.

Even the praise came with one tactical reservation. Fans and analysts pointed to Osimhen’s movement across the defensive line and urged him to improve his awareness of offside positions. They argued that staying onside more consistently could create further scoring opportunities, but his two goals and assist against Erzurumspor left him as the central figure in the 4-0 victory.
